Malaysia retires from Formula 1

The Malaysian Grand Prix from next season will disappear from the Formula 1 calendar.

Commercial Director of Formula 1 Sean Bratches said that next season’s main racing series in the world will consist of 21 races. Calendar for 2018, there was no place for the Malaysian Grand Prix – Sepang stage out of the championship due to financial factor.

“The Cabinet has agreed to complete the contract for conducting of races Formula 1, starting in 2018, as a result of a permanent reduction of benefits to the country compared to the costs”, – said the Prime Minister of Malaysia Najib Razak.

The funds that the government of Malaysia allocated for the stage of Formula 1 will be redirected to other projects related to Motorsport, – the modernization of the Sepang circuit and the training of young pilots.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the race track in Sepang for the hospitality and professionalism over the years for their dedication to the sport”, – said the commercial Director of Formula 1 Sean Bratches.

The final race will be held in Malaysia on 1 October. This will be the 19th stage of Formula 1 at the Sepang circuit.

For the first time, Malaysia adopted a Formula-1 in 1999. The most successful driver in the history of the track was Sebastian Vettel, who managed the first four to cross the finish line. Among the teams greatest victories Ferrari – 7 won the race.
