One of the paintings hanging in the Museum of fine arts of the Federal state of North Rhine – Westphalia in düsseldorf (Germany), was a fake. It was given for the original painting of the artist-avant-gardist Kazimir Malevich “Black rectangle, a red square”.
It is reported that counterfeits of Malevich hung in the museums of Germany for several decades.
The painting “Black rectangle, a red square” in 2015 was in the Museum of fine arts of the Federal state of North Rhine – Westphalia in düsseldorf.
According to the newspaper, after two rounds of peer review, the picture, the estimated cost of € 50-80 million, was recognized as high quality fake 1970s.
According to the results of laboratory studies revealed that the painting dated 1915, likely to have been created in the period from 1972 to 1975.
Among other things, the experts carried out a radiocarbon analysis of leaf, which showed that “young” fake contains much more radiation than objects that were created before 1950.
