Giant corporations come together for the sake of creating “big” in the car
Toyota, Intel, Ericsson, and a number of technology and automotive companies announced the formation of a consortium to create infrastructure for the ecosystem of “big data” (Big Data) used in connected cars. The consortium called the Automotive Edge Computing Consortium. It also included DENSO Corporation, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT), NTT DOCOMO, Toyota InfoTechnology Center Co.
The consortium intends to use big data to support new services such as intelligent navigation, creating maps with data coming in real time, as well as assist in driving cloud-based computing, stated in a statement Toyota.
It is expected that by 2025 the volume of traffic between vehicles and the cloud services will reach 10 exabytes per month, which is about 10,000 times more traffic now.
“This expected increase will necessitate the creation of new architectures of network and computer infrastructure to support distributed resources and topology data storage. Architecture will be consistent with the applicable standards, which requires companies cooperation in local and global scale”, — noted in a press release from Toyota.
