In an interview with “observer” said the first President of Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk.
The former head of state first visited the Crimea during his studies at the University a year before his transfer to Ukraine, and was stunned at the on the Peninsula of poverty.
“1953. I am a student of national University of Kyiv, a native of Rivne region, therefore their life never seen the sea. Then there was no television, to see it. And two guys, and all we were three, saying: “let’s go to Crimea, view of the sea.” It was the year 1954 – accession of the Peninsula to Ukraine”, — he told.
According to Kravchuk, he is such poverty in my life not seen anywhere else. “Although I’m a guy from the village and lived in the palaces. The shops are empty, people are swollen because they are eating mosquitoes. People came from Orel, Tambov regions. They didn’t know how to farm in the Crimea. And all the time missed native places. We went into one of the courtyards to drink water and we asked the question: “How are we to get away from the Crimea?” — shared memories of the former President.
