Italian diplomat called the Peninsula “a country that voted for independence.”
Ukrainian Ambassador to Italy Yevhen Perelygin responded to an interview with the Italian Ambassador to Russia Cesare Ragaglini, in which he talks about the legality of the referendum on joining of Crimea to Russia, said on the Facebook page of the Embassy of Ukraine in Rome.
Ragaglini in an interview with Italian newspaper Corriere Della Sera said that “Crimea was not the first country that voted for independence in Europe”.
Perelygin said that “ambiguous and contradictory” words of the Italian Ambassador hurt bilateral relations of Italy and Ukraine.
He stressed that the Italian Ambassador has forgotten that the Crimea is not a sovereign territory and expressed the hope that the official position of Rome differs from the opinion of the Ambassador.
