Kazakhstan residents were left without social networks because of possible rallies

Amid the proliferation of calls for rallies on may 9, Kazakhstan Internet providers blocked access to popular social networks and messenger.

As found by the non-governmental organization NetBlocks, the inhabitants of the country is not available Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Telegram and some news portals.

It is noted that the Telegram fell out of favor because of the special policies against censorship, at a time like WhatsApp and Twitter work without a hitch.

According to local media, the number of blocked sites appeared rus.azattyq.org, exclusive.kz, vlast.kz, holanews.kz and websites publications “AK Zhayik” and “Ural week”.

Earlier the Kazakh Prosecutor General’s office warned citizens from participation in unauthorized actions on may 9. The Supervisory Agency has responded to emerging social networks calls for rallies in support of fair elections.
