Nazarbayev ratified the law on the limitation for presidential candidates.
The law stipulates that to run for the presidency, only citizens of Kazakhstan, who have a minimum of five years of work experience in the public service or electoral public office.
Candidates will also need to prove that they have no diseases that could prevent performance of duties.
Existing rules stipulate that ballot can citizens born in Kazakhstan or lived in the country for at least 15 years, not younger than 40 years. Also prerequisite is fluency in the Kazakh language.
The tenure of the President in office is 5 years. One person can be President for a maximum of two consecutive terms.
But President Nazarbayev has a personal exemption, the number of terms is not limited.
77-year-old Nazarbayev has led the government since 1989. In the elections in 2015, he’s got almost 98% of the votes.
