In Japan, found a dinosaur skeleton
The researchers found in the mountains of Hokkaido the remains of the 8-metre-long dinosaur, whose age is approximately 72 million years. These dimensions make it the largest dinosaur skeleton ever found in Japan.
The fossilized remains were found in a geological layer, which belongs to the upper Cretaceous period when the land was covered with sea water at 80-200 meters. Discovered dinosaur probably lived close to the shore.
Researchers from Hokkaido University and the Museum of the city Mukawa called the discovery “one of the greatest discoveries in the history of Japanese studies dinosaurs,” adding that it is extremely rare to find a number of parts of a single dinosaur to recreate a complete skeleton. This dinosaur is from the family of duck-billed dinosaurs of the ornithopod suborder was nicknamed Macavery – dragon Mukava.
“We first found part of a fossilized skeleton Macavery in 2013. After a series of excavations, we believe that we found more than half of the dinosaur bones, thus, we argue that there is a complete skeleton. Preliminary studies indicate that the dinosaur belonged to the group of hadrosaurs,” – said Dr. Yoshitsugu Kobayashi, one of the authors of the study.
