Jaguar racing by Stirling moss goes up for auction

Up for auction Sotheby’s auction house in Arizona, which will be held in January next year, will put the legendary British sports car — the Jaguar D-Type Works, 1954.

In the same year the car took part at Le Mans — it was made by Sir Stirling moss and Peter Walker. The estimated price of the car — 12-15 million dollars.

The Mulsanne Straight — a straight segment with a length of 5.8 kilometers on the race track “circuit de La Sarthe”. In 1990, for increased security, it has built two chicanes.

The same car later set a speed record on the most famous part of the track in Le Mans — the Mulsanne Straight. There the car was driven up to 274 kilometers per hour. Later, the car was racing on the racetrack, Goodwood, Oulton Park, Aintree and Silverstone and others.

Jaguar racing is built around the monocoque of magnesium alloy. Body panels made of aluminum. Front suspension — double-wishbone, torsion, rear — dependent with trailing arms. Machine weight — 880 pounds.

Jaguar D-Type Works is equipped with row “six” in volume of 3,4 litres. The return of the unit makes 273 horsepower and 325 Nm of torque. Up to 96 kilometers per hour D-Type were dispersed in seven seconds and its maximum speed was 280 kilometers per hour.

In 2016 the Jaguar D-Type, which in 1956 won the “24 hours of Le Mans” sold at auction for a record amount — more than $ 20 million. The car is equipped with 3.6-liter inline six-cylinder engine and is fully consistent with the original car.
