Illusions in art for a long time no surprise. But the small fishing town of Ísafjörður in Iceland reached a new level – they use the 3D effect to ensure the safety of the population.

Last month on the same narrow street was painted crosswalk, which seemed to be hovering above the asphalt. Seeing this, any driver will certainly stop.

Commissioner for the environment Ralph Trill (Ralf Trylla) was looking for creative ideas how to slow the traffic, and came across a similar project in new Delhi, India. To work together he invited the company of street art Vegmálun GÍH. Before you apply the pattern on the asphalt, they experimented several weeks to achieve ideal technique.

The effect was stunning optical illusion varies with the angle of view. From the air the white stripes turn into a column of thick walls, but from the ground they seem to float in the air. The project is still considered experimental: the locals get used to a 3D Zebra, and the authorities decide whether or not to make such crossings throughout the city.
