Before the Islamic revolution of Iran was reminiscent of a European country.
The last 40 years of the monarchy that befell the Shah of Iran Mohammad Reza Pahlavi become too Pro-Western for the masses and the Muslim Shiite clergy that led to the revolution of 1979 (1357 in the Iranian calendar) year.
Radical changes that time has brought Iran to this level of cultural freedom, of which there has never been and which, probably, will not soon appear. We do not believe, were it not for these unique photos of Iran before the Islamic revolution.
Like Ataturk in Turkey, Reza Shah undertook a series of reforms aimed at the transformation of Iran into a modern westernized state.
These reforms included the structuring of Central Iran around the Persian identity, often brutal suppression of religious discontent and the empowerment of women.
In particular, women were encouraged to attend school and get an education.
