It was originally planned to impose martial law for a period of 60 days.
The military situation in Ukraine will not be renewed after the 30-day validity period December 26, unless a full-scale invasion of Russia.
This was stated by President Petro Poroshenko at a press conference in Kiev.
“Barring a full-scale invasion of Russian troops on the territory of Ukraine, outside the line of contact, the military situation will not be renewed, and will begin preparing for the election of the President,” he said.
Poroshenko stressed that his position is that the military situation should not prevent elections.
The President also said that since the imposition of martial law, Russia has taken less than 10% of those troops, which were concentrated earlier on the border of Ukraine.
“The lion’s share left. Unfortunately, only less than 10%. If the troops were withdrawn, I would have immediately terminated the martial law,” he said.
“We have today existed and continues to exist, the threat of invasion of the Russian armed forces on sovereign Ukrainian territory. We must be ready,” – said Poroshenko.
The President stressed that it was initially planned to impose martial law for a period of 60 days, as was appropriate plans of the army on deployment of new military units. However, later it was decided to redeploy troops, which allowed to reduce the period.
“She was held. Our readiness to repel aggression significantly increased”, – he stressed.
