At the Ukrainian Institute of naramata say that on the order of 10 — 18 monuments and commemorative signs: a cannon mounted in honor of the uprising of the workers of the Arsenal (near the subway “arsenalny”), arch of Friendship of peoples, the sculpture of St, which in March sawed off part of the legs of the horse, a bust of Valery Chkalov Gonchar and Nikolai Ostrovsky Povitroflotskyi Avenue, 35.
“Already dismantled more than 100 features, but we need to get all the rest that fall under the law on de-communization,” — says chief specialist of the Institute of naramata Viacheslav Kutsenko. Opinions of Ukrainians on account of the necessary demolition diverge.
THE CITY WILL CHECK IT OUT. “We need to examine each object and find out which of them on balance of the city, and which are not. As to the arch of Friendship of peoples, we have yet to find the owner, the city of this object is not supported by. To dismantle it, we need millions of hryvnia. Perhaps we should just change the name of the object,” says “Today,” the mayor of Kiev Dmitry Belotserkovets.
At the Institute of naramata claim that the law is the renaming of monuments is not provided. “You can not cover something about the monument, as it did with a huge bas-relief of Lenin at the metro station “Theatre”, and rename, too, is impossible. By law, it needs to be removed!”, — said Kutsenko. However regarding the arch of Friendship of peoples – the law on the dismantling of clearly covered only the sculptural composition where two men holding the Soviet, not the entire monument, has long become a symbol of Kiev.
SHCHORS. Monument to Shchors has a protected status (monument listed in the state register of immovable monuments of Ukraine) and to move it to another location (for example, the Museum of monumental propaganda, exhibition of economic achievements), needs the approval from the Ministry of culture. “On the part of the deputies of Kyiv city Council made to this monument was transferred to the Museum. We have petitioned the Ministry of culture with a request to change the address Shchors. The Agency has not yet responded. This should be done as quickly as possible, because vandals can destroy the statue,” Belotserkovets said.
