The attitude of Ukrainians toward NATO is deteriorating.
Institute of public opinion Gallup from the USA published the results of a survey on the attitude to NATO in different countries.
This is the official website of the organization.
As noted in the study, in the past, 2016, increased the number of Ukrainian citizens, who tend to see NATO as a threat. The figure was 35%. While 29% of Ukrainians consider NATO protection, and 26% still undecided with the opinion. Moreover, as the graph shows, the number of Ukrainians see NATO as a threat exceeded the number of those who see the protection for the first time since the beginning of the war in the Donbass.
The experts of Gallup believe that public opinion affected the war in the Donbass. In earlier studies, Ukrainian public opinion was in favour of NATO. In 2014, after NATO insisted on sanctions against Russia for the annexation of Crimea, Ukrainians were more likely to consider NATO as protection (36%). In addition, the Institute recalled that in the period from 2008 to 2014, the level of confidence in NATO has dropped from 43% to 20%.
Analysts also cited data on other CIS countries. So, the biggest level of mistrust towards NATO is observed in Belarus – 54%. And the smallest – in Georgia – 8%.
