Interesting discovery: scientists have found underwater bees

Under water as on land there are a variety of plants, some of them reproduce through pollination. Until now, biologists believed that the underwater plants are fertilized only with water, but as it turned out, there are underwater bees.

For several years, scientists from the National Autonomous University of Mexico has removed the “idle spring reel” crustaceans among the thickets of seaweed. Looking at the video, the researchers noticed that those algae, which more cancer — have a lot of pollen.

“We saw all these animals and then we saw that some of them were carrying pollen,” says lead researcher Brigitte van Tussenbroek.

The concept was so new that they invented a new term to describe it — zoobenthophilous pollination. Because up to this point, scientists have never seen anything like it, the researchers decided to conduct a home experiment to prove that crustaceans do pollinate underwater plants and do not eat pollen, for example. The experiment involved tiny crustaceans and algae. Already in the aquarium, the researchers again confirmed their discovery as the crustaceans collected pollen from one flower and transferred it to another.

After this discovery, the researchers intend to experiment with different underwater plants, about 60 species and crustaceans to understand all plants are pollinated, exactly what do all crustaceans are able to behave in “bee”.
