Intel losing the lead in the production of processors

Intel for the first time in 25 years and lost its leadership in the market.

In the first quarter of 2017, Intel slipped to second place in the ranking of chip producers.

The IC Insights report shows that Samsung was able to bypass Intel’s revenue from sales of semiconductor products.

Already by the end of quarter revenue Intel will amount to 14.4 billion dollars, while Samsung in the same segment of the market will be able to earn 14.9 billion. This situation is associated with the growth of the market of mobile processors on the ARM architecture and, at the same time, with falling sales of laptops and personal computers.

Intel held a dominant position on the market of processors for almost a quarter of a century with processors of the x86 architecture. In recent years the share of such processors is reduced, and the share of mobile chips is growing. In particular, in 2016, in third place among the manufacturers of processors for the first time in its history reached the company Qualcomm.

If the current market trend continues, by the end of 2017, Samsung will be the market leader.
