Intel released a USB accelerator of artificial intelligence for any PC
Intel has announced Movidius Neural Compute Stick is a compact device in the form factor “stick”, which is designed to accelerate computations associated with deep learning neural networks. USB stick is designed to reduce the barrier to entry in the development, configuration and deployment of applications of artificial intelligence.
As the “heart” of the device supports Myriad 2 Vision Processing Unit (VPU) is a low-power processor (consuming only 1 watt), which uses 12 parallel cores for processing computer vision algorithms such as object detection and face detection.
Myriad 2 is optimized for computer vision technologies and is used, for example, drone Phantom 4-th generation. It is the Movidius processor is responsible for the vision drone DJI: the Phantom builds a 3D model of the surrounding world, oriented in space and “see” obstacles.
The performance of the Compute Stick, the manufacturer promises up to 100 gigaflops. The housing is made of aluminum. New sells for $79.
