Lion monument, Lucerne, Switzerland
“Dying lion” is called the saddest monument in the world. Sculpture pierced by an arrow of a lion with an almost human facial expressions, is carved directly into the rock in the early nineteenth century. The high relief dedicated to the Swiss guards who died during the storming of the French Palace of the Tuileries in 1792.
Shoes on the Danube promenade, Budapest, Hungary
In 1944-1945, the members of the Nazi party of Hungary was shot on the Danube promenade a few thousand people. To save bullets they were tied up for 50-60 people and shot first, which, falling, drags the rest of the people. Before the execution they were forced to remove their shoes, which is then sold. In memory of the dead people on the river put 60 pairs of iron shoes — men, women and children.
A Memorial To Edith Stein, Cologne, Germany
Edith Stein — nun-a Carmelite, canonized in 1998 by Pope John Paul II. In 1942 she, along with thousands of other Dutch Jews sent to Auschwitz, where she died in the gas chamber.
Memorial in Khatyn, Belarus
22 March 1943 the village of Khatyn was burned by the punitive squad in revenge for harboring guerrillas, who killed the officer in the Wehrmacht. All 149 residents of the village were herded into a barn which was set on fire. Those who ran from the burning building, then shot. In 1969 on the site of the destroyed village was erected a memorial in memory of the peaceful people who died in the Second world war.
Children’s peace monument, Hiroshima, Japan
6 Aug 1945 2-year-old Sadako Sasaki was at home in Hiroshima. That day she didn’t die, but 10 years later died of leukemia, caused by radiation exposure. Shortly before his death, she learned the legend that if you make a 1,000 paper cranes, then grant any wish. Sadako wished for life.

The Memorial “Yama” In Minsk, Belarus
March 2, 1942 on Melnikaite street Minsk German soldiers killed about 5 000 people living in the Minsk ghetto. In memory of this event at the place of execution in 2000 he established a sculptural composition “the Last journey”, consisting of several dozen figures of people coming to the pit. All work on installation of a monument dedicated to all victims of the Holocaust, was carried out manually, and in its creation took 8 years.
A monument to unborn children, Bardejov, Slovakia
In a small Slovak town Bardejov is a monument to unborn children. In the original sculpture, copies of which were established in different parts of the world, child figurine made of crystal. According to the author, Martin Hudecek, the monument should remind people of the value of human life.
The monument to the 82 children of Lidice, Czech Republic
10 June 1942 the village of Lidice, near Prague, was completely destroyed by German troops. The reason was suspected of harboring guerrillas who had attempted the life of a German officer. All the villagers, including children over 1 year, were either executed or deported to concentration camps.
The monument to the “Women in the Second world war”, London, UK
The monument to women of world war II was opened in the center of the British capital in 2005. On a black stone plate “hang” 17 sets of clothes, among them a nurse’s uniform and military uniform, clothes of the welder, and much more, embodying the profession who had to learn to women during the war.
Monument to animals who died in wars, London, UK
Near London’s Hyde Park there is an unusual monument dedicated to all animals that have ever fallen in all armed conflict on Earth. The memorial depicts a coming to the passage in the wall of the two Laden mules, in front of which, behind a wall are the bronze horse and the dog looking back in search of a host. The monument was created by private individuals who donated nearly 1.5 million pounds.
Bonus
There is a “Monument to unborn children” and “continuation” created by Martin Hudacko in 2015. This sculpture is installed at one of the cemeteries of the Polish city of Wroclaw, where they bury unborn children.
