In Washington during the protest, the police detained the activist of the Ukrainian Diaspora, the Oleksa Chopivsky. She took part in a rally near the National Cathedral against the organized by the Russian Embassy Concert for unity.
“Olexa together with my mom handing out leaflets to visitors of the concert, which was attended by Russian conductor Valery Gergiev and pianist Denis Matsuev. Both of them in 2014-m year, signed a letter in support of the annexation of Crimea by Russia and its policy towards Ukraine”, – stated in the message.
It is noted that the protection of the Cathedral asked the women to leave the territory. However Chopivsky studied in a private school for girls at the Cathedral and therefore defended their right to stay in the area.
As a result, the head of security called the police. Police handcuffed the girl and took to the station where she promised to make the report and to let go.
In the comments of Chopivsky confirmed that she was accused of illegal penetration on private property and forbidden to enter the territory of the Cathedral during the year. It will challenge the accusations in court.
“This is a national Church. It is open to all. Sounds like I’d climbed over the fence. There all the time walking people, everyone can enter the territory of the Cathedral. Besides, I was there 14 years studied. For me it’s like a second home,” said the activist.
Chopivsky kept in police custody for about five hours, then released.
