In Ukrainian schools introduce a new subject

The Minister of education considers that the new object is to master all students

The Ministry of education and science of Ukraine decided to teach children financial literacy and this course has developed tasks that must be integrated for the development of these skills in the compulsory subjects of the school curriculum.

This was stated by the Minister of education and science, Liliya Hrynevych during the opening of the Ukrainian competition of young experts of the course “Financial literacy”

Liliya Hrynevych explained that even those students who currently choose the course “Financial literacy” as an optional course, already have the opportunity to obtain the skills about the rules of successful and responsible handling of money. However, the Minister of education and science, believes that this is not enough.

“Financial literacy is one of the key competencies of the New Ukrainian school, and she’s already laid down the law “On education”. And despite the fact that 1st class nush will be recruited only in 2018, and 12 only in 2030-m, thanks to this course we have developed materials for all classes and for all age groups. This is a huge work that has been done in advance. In fact, we’re in all the basic schools included tasks focused on the development of financial literacy, but this should be implemented more systematically and for all grades,” explained Lilia Grinevich. At the moment, according to the Minister, the course covered 1,100 schools and nearly 27 000 students. Liliya Hrynevych believes that financial literacy skills should be mastered by all who left school in Ukraine.

“Financial literacy should be shared by everyone who finished high school in Ukraine. Graduate in Ukraine needs to get the skills that later will help him become a successful person. Financial literacy is one of such skills. I think that this competition will help children to become consultants in their own homes, to help other people. After all, critical thinking, decision-making, ability to take responsibility is the best achievement that must have every educated person,” said the Minister.
