In August, the price of watermelons in Ukraine increased to 4-4,5 UAH/kg, which is a record for late August in the history of the independence of the country.
It is reported by the analytical project “APK-inform: vegetables and fruits”.
“So, at the moment Ukrainian farmers already offer watermelon high quality at 4-4,5 UAH/kg (0,13-0,15 Euro/kg), prices for substandard products start from 2.5 UAH/kg (0,08 Euro/kg). Thus, since the start of this week these products are on the market of Ukraine rose by 1.6-1.7 times,” – reported the analysts of the project.
In the message add that the current price of watermelons in the Ukrainian farms on average 6.3 times higher than at the end of August last year. Previously, a record was considered to be rates Aug 2014 and 2.3 UAH/kg.
The price increase this year due to a significant reduction in the harvest of watermelons in Ukraine, due to abnormal rise in temperature of air in the middle of summer.
The project analysts pointed out that the high prices affect the decline in domestic demand and decreasing exports of watermelons in General.
