In Ukraine is rapidly getting more expensive “grocery basket”

In the first quarter of 2017, “food basket” has risen in price for Ukrainians to 130 hryvnia.

According to the Economic discussion club, for the first quarter of the current year the cost of the minimum food basket increased for the working population of 130 hryvnia (10,5%), and for lost working capacity – 108 hryvnia (11.4 per cent). In General, the cost of the food basket is 85% of the amount of the subsistence minimum.

In April there was a rise in 9 of the 11 food groups, which is calculated using the minimum food basket. The highest absolute increase in the value was observed in the fruit and vegetable group. According to this, the fruits are added to the cost of a monthly set 22,85 hryvnia, vegetables 14,96 UAH.

“In relative terms the largest growth was also demonstrated fruit (+29% compared to the previous month). In this case, the fourth consecutive month there has been a significant reduction in the cost of eggs, in particular, in April of this year they again fell by 19.7%, or by 4.58 hryvnia,” — said in the message.

In April 2017, the average monthly cost of food basket for able-bodied persons amounted to 1364 UAH 85% of the subsistence level for this category of the population.

For persons who lost working capacity in the April food basket cost 1057 UAH, which is also made up 85% of the subsistence level for this category of the population. So compared to March of this year the price rose in April for able-bodied persons 60 UAH for the disabled — 47 UAH.

Experts note that the highest price in the basket has a milk group of goods – 386 UAH. or 28.3% of the total cost. Second position keep the costs of meat – 306 UAH (22.5 per cent). In April, the third position was the group of “vegetables and melons” (142 UAH or 10,4%), surpassing the group “bread and bakery foods”. The cheapest product is eggs and 1.4% (18,70 UAH).
