Worship service near the monument to fighters of “the organization of Ukrainian nationalists — Ukrainian insurgent army” (UPA, a movement banned in Russia) who died in “an unequal battle with the Bolshevik invaders in 1944”, was in the town of Vishnevets, Ternopil region. About this on his page in Facebook said the Director of the Ukrainian Jewish Committee Eduard Dolinsky.
The memorial includes a monument, a stone cross and a stele with the names of fallen fighters of the UPA. As noted Dolinsky, the list of victims of “national heroes” is Anatoly Bodasiuk accomplice of Hitler from among Ukrainian nationalists. July 12, 1941, Bodasiuk and his other supporters organized in Vyshnivets ‘ pogrom, during which killed 40 Jews.
After the pogrom of Bodasiuk was appointed commandant of the Ukrainian auxiliary police in the city. In his post he continued to organize the extermination of the Jewish population. As noted Dolinsky, after the defeat of the Germans in the battle of Stalingrad, Bodasiuk deserted from the punitive organs in the UPA.
In March, Ukraine entered into force the law, equalizing the veterans of the great Patriotic war, who fought on the side of the red Army, and Ukrainian nationalists whose leader was Stepan Bandera. Veterans received the same legal status of “fighters for independence” and equal benefits.
