Unique Observatory with a rotating dome opened in Zhytomyr school № 8.
A unique Observatory in Ukraine.
The Observatory has already begun the elective classes and the astronomy club. “Since March this year introduced the holding of inter-school elective, open lessons and classes, performing practical work within the prospecting works of the Small Academy of Sciences, trained guides for excursions”, – stated in the message.
It is noted that the school No. 8 was built in 1937. A feature of the building is the tower on the roof which has long been used for fire surveillance. Since 1956, the tower is a gravimetric point of where it was measuring the earth’s gravity to create a grid of the city.
For a long time the tower was not used. In 2014, the Director of the school proposed to build an Observatory. Reconstruction cost the city 1 million 350 thousand hryvnias. For the purchase of technical equipment of the Observatory from the budget allocated 250 thousand UAH.
