Today is the 77 anniversary of the executions of Jews at Babi Yar.
In September 1941, in the tract Babi Yar in Kiev was held the first mass executions, mostly of Jews, carried out by German occupation command.
President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko expressed condolences over tragic to give on his page in Facebook.
“Babi Yar – a place of eternal rest of the victims of the bloody Nazi Moloch. This horrifying event will never be erased from our memories, unbearable pain echoing in our hearts. In the hearts of all who understand – can never happen again on earth such a crime that claimed the lives of more than a hundred thousand Ukrainians, Jews, Gypsies and representatives of other Nations,” wrote Poroshenko.
We will note, on September 27-28, 1941, on the walls of houses, fences and poles Kiev there were ads with text in Ukrainian, Russian and German: “All the Jews of Kyiv and its environs must appear on Monday 29 September 1941 at 8 o’clock in the morning on the corner of Melnikova and Dehtiarivska streets (near the cemetery). Take with itself documents, money, valuables, warm clothing, linen and the like. Some of the Jews do not fulfill this order and is found elsewhere will be shot. Who will penetrate into the abandoned apartment and usurp things, will be shot”.
According to historian and lead researcher of the Museum of history of Kiev, the responsible Secretary of the Public Committee for honoring the memory of victims of Babi Yar Vitaly Nakhmanovich, all the time of the German occupation, Babi Yar were shot about 100 thousand people, including Jews, to 70 thousand.
