The holiday is celebrated annually on the first Saturday of July
Every year on the first Saturday of July celebrates the Day of the Dnieper, the largest river in Ukraine and the third largest in Europe. The holiday was established in 2003 to attract attention to environmental problems of this waterway.
The role of the Dnieper in the life of different peoples, including the Ukrainian are very significant. Since ancient times, the river provided residents with water and fish, served as an important trading channel. Today remains the source of water supply for about 70% of our population.
In Kyiv the international Day of the Dnieper began to be celebrated on June 29. This year GOSPODARSTVO together with the Dnieper basin Department of water resources organized a celebration for pupils and students. The event was held at children’s recreation camp “Karasik” (Kiev region, Vyshgorodskiy district).
And on Friday in Kiev, staged a concert of the Symphony orchestra on the water, the purpose of which was to “tell” sustainable development and environmental issues using the language of music that unites people.
Another interesting event, which will “welcome” the Dnieper with his “day” will be the festival Lifeguard Fest is traditional for many countries the format of the event, which provides for an active vacation near the water.
