“This is a normal European standard”.
The head of “Ukravtodor” Slawomir Nowak has proposed to reduce the maximum speed in towns to 50 km/h.
He stated this at the government meeting on Wednesday, speaking with a report on road safety.
“It’s time to start talking about increasing the penalties for speed and speed reduction in cities from 60 km/h to 50 km/h. This is a normal European standard,” said Novak, who in 2011-2013, was led by the Ministry of transport of Poland.
Novak argues that such a reduction of 90% increases the chance of survival for a pedestrian who hit the car.
Recall that now the traffic regulations stipulate maximum speed in settlements is 60 km/h. On separate sites of roads in coordination with the National police, the speed limit can be increased. This is done, for example, on some highways in Kiev.
