Animals were recorded in the Red book.
The Minister of ecology and natural resources Ostap Semerak allowed to shoot more than a hundred elk, despite the previously imposed ban on the hunting of moose for 25 years. He said this on his page in Facebook.
“Just signed the limits of utilization of game animals in this hunting season. Those who follow this story know that the limits have not been approved in the us for several months because of information about the critical decrease in the population of moose in Ukraine. Was a long discussion and search of compromises with the agriculture Ministry. The results still quite a constructive dialogue at the level of the two ministries (agrarian policy and ecology) agreed limits on shooting 160 species of elk. This is less than half suggested the hunters,” writes the Minister.
The official said that could not take into account the position of the representatives of the hunting industry.
However, activists and environmentalists are outraged by this decision.
“If the number of these animals are critically low, and this is confirmed, then we go back to the introduction of a ban on hunting. Scientists believe that the best time to undertake such studies is winter. In the spring we will have scientifically sound results,” the Minister said.
