The nonprofit Seasteading Institute announced the beginning of an ambitious project in the Pacific ocean, near Tahiti.
It is noted that the state will be built on floating pontoons, and it will appear in the next ten years. The construction plan approved by the government of French Polynesia, which creates a free economic zone, to a floating country could exist by its own laws. The tiny state of 118 Islands gave to the city of the future 400 thousand m2 of shoreline.
However, this construction will also help to solve a serious problem – the fact that French Polynesia will soon be completely flooded because of rising water levels in the oceans.
“We were looking for protected water. The city in the open ocean is technically possible, but economically unprofitable outrageous,” said Institute Director Joe Quirke.
