In the town of Khyriv in Lviv region there was a fire in the building of the former Jesuit complex.
The three-story historic building on the street of Bohdan Khmelnytsky 40, which in recent years housed the hotel Layar Palace, caught fire on Saturday around 14:00. The fire managed to be liquidated only on Sunday by 6:20.
“The fire spread to the roof and burnt down the third floor of the building”, – said the mayor of Chyrowa Ivan golubets.
The publication writes that the fire spread to the lower floors. According to SSES, the fire area amounted to 3 300 square meters.
The complex of the former Jesuit College, built in 1886, it is a monument of architecture of local importance. Until 1939 in Chyrowa operated a Jesuit school. Jaroslav hašek mentions Khyriv in the novel the good soldier Svejk.
