Previously, they only once talked on the phone — in November, Putin congratulated trump’s victory in the presidential elections.
The heads of state exchanged views on major issues of bilateral relations. They agreed to work towards the stabilization and development of Russian-American relations on an equal basis.
“Both sides have demonstrated a mindset for active joint work on stabilization and development of Russian-American cooperation on a constructive, equal and mutually beneficial basis”, — is spoken in the message of the Kremlin.
The heads of state noted the importance of restoring trade and economic relations between business circles of both countries.
The US President said that the American people are sympathetic to Russia and Russians. For its part, Vladimir Putin stressed that in Russia have similar feelings to the Americans.
During the election campaign trump repeatedly talked about the desire to “get along” with Moscow. While in Moscow noted that during the presidency of Barack Obama Russian-the American relations had suffered serious damage, the overcoming of which will take time and serious work.
Putin and trump also discussed cooperation in the fight against radical Islamic terrorism. The Russian President stressed that he sees US as a crucial partner in the fight against international terrorism. In the program of the new White house administration, the fight against “Islamic state” (organization banned in Russia) and other terrorist groups named as a top priority. In this trump, in his words, expects to cooperate with Russia. “We go out together and knock the spirit of ISIS,” he said in an interview with Fox News on Friday.
