Interesting birds with crests grazing in the Park.
A resident of Kupyansk of Kharkov region had seen in the city centre hoopoes. The birds were grazing in the Park near the monument to Shevchenko.
“Most urban residents have not even seen this very handsome bird. And many of those who saw – don’t know what it is called hoopoe. Birds quickly ran across the grass, catching insects with its long beak. Sometimes they echoed the deaf sounds heard as “od-od” or “UD-UD” , – the eyewitness reported.
According to the Ukrainian society for protection of birds, the hoopoe is a very interesting bird with a bright chestnut colour of the upper part of the torso, the striped black-and-white plumage of the wings and the tail and tuft on the head, which can unfold and emerge.
Males and females apparently do not differ from each other, the female has a slightly darker color.
Hoopoes easy to learn, not only in appearance but also on the specifics of the move. They fly not fast, fluttering like butterflies. On the ground move quickly and nimbly. Hoopoes feed on a large number of harmful insects and their larvae than bring people invaluable in the fight against pests of forests, parks and gardens.
