Europe has become closer to ban disposable plastic.
Wednesday, 10 October, the European Parliament Committee on the environment voted for the ban in the EU from 2021 the use of certain disposable plastic products, in particular dishes, said a press release on the website of the European Parliament.
“Disposable plastic products such as Cutlery, cotton swabs, plates, straws, stirrers for drinks and holders for balloons will be banned in the EU from 2021 according to the project plans approved Wednesday by the Committee on environment and public health”, – is spoken in the message.
The use of some other products into the EU for which no alternative is proposed to reduce by 2025. Such related items, including disposable boxes for burgers and containers for fruits, vegetables, desserts or ice cream.
“Member States will develop national plans for the promotion of goods, suitable for repeated use, and for reuse and recycling”, – stated in the release.
Other plastics, such as beverage bottles, should be collected separately and recycled at 90% volume by 2025.
As noted, the reduction should also apply to waste from tobacco products.
“Member States will need to ensure that tobacco companies covered the cost of collection of waste from its products, including transportation, processing and garbage collection”, – said in the European Parliament.
A report containing these proposals will be submitted to the vote of the plenary session of the European Parliament, scheduled for 22-25 October, said in a release.
