Restoration work will take about a year – at this time, the old clock will be replaced by video projection.
One of the most famous sights of Prague — astronomical clock (Orloj) on old town city hall is closed for major reconstruction for more than 30 years.
Reconstruction of the astronomical clock and the town hall should be completed in June 2018. Its price is about 48 million kronor. In addition, there will be an updated facade, roof and lighting of the old town hall.
The beginning of the restoration works is planned for February.
“Chimes will be completely dismantled and removed in workshops. It is necessary to restore many of the component parts, e.g., traction elements and leading mechanisms” — said in an interview with Czech television, the main care specialist, chimes Peter Rock.
At the last stage of reconstruction (at the end of this year) chimes will be replaced by video projection.
