Putin adviser proposes to restrict Internet access like China.
Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation on issues of development of the Internet believes that information security in the country can be achieved by limiting the use of the Network. The Internet Ombudsman has called this idea counterproductive.
The only way to guarantee information security in Russia is a restriction of Network access in China, said Thursday, January 26, Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation on development of the Internet Herman Klimenko.
“One way is the Chinese version. Certainly, control is necessary because there are no opportunities to prevent it. China less sensitive to public opinion, they evaluated the threat and limited the Internet. Now they have no such problems”, – said Klimenko.
Adviser to Vladimir Putin also complained that many foreign companies operating on the territory of the Russian Federation not responding to requests from Russian law enforcement agencies. As an example, he cited the WhatsApp messenger, pointing to the inability to contact the company with a written request “and ask them to disable encryption”.
According to the politician, if the foreign messengers and social networks will not cooperate with government agencies, “any self-respecting state has to throw them away”.
Internet Ombudsman Dmitry Marinichev said the initiative about restriction of access to the Network is impossible and counterproductive. “This is a disaster of some sort. First, I am categorically opposed to (off of the Internet. – Ed.). Secondly, to deal with technology in this way is contratrend that will not lead to any solution, and Vice versa. Because in this case you will need to begin to deal with its citizens”, – the politician considers.
“Textbook Machiavelli we know that town who lived a free life, you cannot force someone to be involuntary. It can only destroy or be destroyed. And still the memory of freedom will live in people forever,” said Dmitry Marinichev.
Putin’s press Secretary Dmitry Peskov said that the statements Klimenko are his “private expert opinion.”
