The current President of Russia Vladimir Putin is afraid that his victory in the presidential elections in 2018 could sow doubts about his legitimacy. This opinion was expressed in an interview with Russian opposition politician Ilya Ponomarev.
According to him, Putin is not only important to win but the high turnout of the population to the polls.
“Putin himself and his administration look at the situation this way: if the incumbent President is a candidate, he is guaranteed to win them, there’s no one in the current circumstances would he challenge and defeat. But this leads to the fact that the elections no intrigue, and no intrigue – no turnout. And if there is no turnout, the legitimacy of the future President is a big question.
For example, the stations will come half of the voters. Accordingly, even if Putin will score 80% votes, that means he will vote for only one third of the population, and it turns out that two-thirds did not support it. It is very much worried about Putin,” – said Ponomarev.
He said that for the Kremlin the importance of high voter turnout, with a subsequent vote for Putin.
“So we have the administration sets the task that the turnout was 70%, and 70% attendance at least 70% voted for Putin. 70 70 – it gives 50% of the population. That’s their job – to at least half of the population in this election, Putin supported”, – explained the politician.
Earlier it was reported that in Moscow talking about a possible referendum, which may turn a presidential election in Russia, scheduled for March 11, 2018. The main intrigue is called as Kyiv and the world will react to the presidential elections of the Russian Federation in the occupied Crimea.
