Irkutsk regional court sentenced to life imprisonment a former police officer from Angarsk, Mikhail Popkov, finding him guilty of 60 murders.
The decision of the court Popkov also stripped of the rank of sub-Lieutenant of militia. To serve his sentence he will be in a colony of special regime.
According to the representative of the Prosecutor’s office, Popkov intends to appeal the verdict to the Supreme court, since the deprivation of the police ranks will leave him without a pension.
Mikhail Popkov, known as the “Angarsk maniac”, was arrested in 2012. In January 2015 he was sentenced to life in prison for the 22 murders committed between 1994 and 2000.
In March 2017 Popkov was charged in the 60 crimes committed from 1992 to 2007. For each of them he gave a confession. By results psihologo-psychiatric examination, Popkov was declared sane.
