In Russia tested a new hypersonic missile

Russian developers have tested the new hypersonic anti-ship missiles “Zircon”. As reported TASS citing a source in the military-industrial complex, during tests the rocket was able to develop the rate of March at eight Mach numbers (9.9 thousand kilometers per hour). Two Mach number more than previously stated.

The development of hypersonic cruise missile is conducted from the end of 2000-ies. The new warhead will be used to defeat surface ships equipped with systems of air and missile defense, which can effectively intercept modern supersonic anti-ship cruise missiles.

Presumably “Zircon” — a two-stage rocket, in which to set the speed used solid rocket motor. After switching off the installation included solid fuel ramjet engine. According to unconfirmed reports, the missile’s range is from 400 to thousands of kilometers.

Hypersonic missiles “Zircon” is scheduled to be included in the armament of nuclear submarines of the fifth generation project “Husky”, which involved the development of the St. Petersburg naval Bureau of machine building “malachite”. These missiles will also include in the nomenclature of arms heavy nuclear missile cruiser “Peter the Great” and “Admiral Nakhimov” project 1144 “Orlan”.
