The authors of the bill point out that the current national anthem, “Russia – our sacred power” is original music and reworked the text of the Soviet anthem, which, in the opinion of the deputies, and did not become a symbol that would unite Russians.

“Despite the fact that many Russians are deeply respected modern hymn, it was the Imperial national anthem is a pride for the glorious victory and symbolizes a great country with a great history,” – said in the explanatory note.

Deputies believe that the adoption of the new national anthem will achieve historical continuity and to commemorate the more than millennial history of the country, which includes the monarchist and Soviet periods.

In addition, the introduction of a new national anthem, according to deputies, will lead to the growth of Patriotic sentiment in Russia and strengthen the international position of Russia.

The anthem “God save the Tsar” was approved by the decree of Emperor Nicholas I in 1834 and used until February 1917.
