The Russian delegation handed over to the representatives of the Syrian opposition, the draft Constitution awaiting feedback on the document, according to the head of the delegation, special envoy of the Russian President on Syria, Alexander Lavrentiev.
He noted that the document was prepared “in order to accelerate the process of adoption of the Constitution of Syria and give it an additional impulse”.
“The draft Constitution currently in the hands of the armed opposition, and we expect their reactions, which for us is very important and interesting from the standpoint of further assistance,” – said Lavrentiev after talks in Astana.
“We hope that the Syrian armed opposition in the future will be more active in this direction (the peace settlement and the creation of the Constitution – ed.)”, – said the head of the Russian delegation.
Today representatives of the Syrian opposition said they would not sign the final communiqué after talks in Astana. The opposition does not believe the document is quite strong.
Earlier it was reported that the outcome of talks on Syria in Kazakhstan could become a “road map” to resolve the conflict. Nine Syrian opposition groups have refused peace talks on Syria in Astana.
