In Russia can refuse to broadcast the Olympics

The first channel and “Russia 1” will broadcast the Games in 2018 in Pyeongchang, if the Russian team will be disqualified from the competition, “Vedomosti”, citing sources familiar with the situation.

As noted by the interlocutors of the newspaper, the lack of Russian athletes will dramatically reduce the audience of the broadcasts, which will not allow TV channels to capitalize on the advertising and “recapture” the money spent on the acquisition of rights.

In addition to the First channel and “Russia 1”, the Olympic games were planned to show the channel “Match TV”. With him, sources say, the situation is more complicated: it’s a sports channel, and probably broadcast it will be able to collect sufficient ratings even without the Russians.

Earlier, the Council of founders WADA decided not to restore the rights of the Russian anti-doping Agency (RUSADA), which may be the first step to the dismissal of the Russian national team from the Olympic games — 2018. At the same time, the President of the IOC Thomas Bach said that the question of the participation of Russian athletes and the situation of the journalist — “two different things” and link them is not worth it. The decision by the national team of Russia will take place in December.
