Thousands of protests were held in many cities of Romania: protesters oppose changes in the field of justice, demanding the resignation of the leadership of Parliament.
“We went to the protests to demand respect for the principle of judicial independence and separation of powers in the state,” said one of the protesters.
The impetus for the protests was the legislative initiative of the Minister of justice of Romania Tudorel Toader, according to which the President of Romania may lose the right to appoint the heads of Department on fight against corruption and the Directorate for combating organized crime, and the right to appoint judges and prosecutors is transmitted to the Higher Council of prosecutors, not the Supreme Council of magistracy.

In the country’s capital – Bucharest – estimated media marched about 10 000 people. The course took place from the building of the Cabinet of Ministers to Constituting court and anti-corruption Committee of the Prosecutor’s office.
