The Parliament of the U.S. state of new York in the next year will consider legalizing marijuana, said Governor Andrew Cuomo.
According to him, he proposed to legalize the drug for “recreational purposes” to end the unnecessary criminalization and allow to levy taxes.
In his Twitter Cuomo called the legalization of marijuana one of the legislative initiatives for the first 100 days of 2019.
“We have two systems of criminal law. One of them is for the wealthy and affluent, the other for all the rest. This will come to an end. Let’s legalize the adult use of marijuana once and for all”, he added.
While still early in the year the Governor recognized the marijuana is a gateway drug that causes addiction.
In USA marijuana legalized in nine States — Washington, Oregon, Nevada, California, Colorado, Vermont, Maine and Massachusetts, for medical use it is available in 30 States.
Earlier in December, the Parliament of New Zealand passed a law legalizing the production and sale of marijuana for medical purposes.
