Moscow archaeologists have discovered a treasure of Ivan the terrible.
Moscow archaeologists have discovered in the capital chess piece of the elephant of the XVI century, in which was hidden silver coins.
“Archaeologists have discovered on Prechistenka the treasure of Ivan the terrible. Ten coins were hidden inside the hollow bone chess piece of the elephant. The find, Dating from the middle of the XVI century”, — stated in the message.
It is noted that the chess piece was found in a construction trench at replacement of gas communications.
The head of the Department of cultural heritage of Moscow Alexey Emelyanov said that the chess figure of an elephant, carved of bone, was hidden 10 silver coins hand coinage, the total amount of which is five cents.
According to preliminary estimates, the coins were minted during the 30-40-ies of the XVI century, that is, they were in Vogue during the reign of Ivan the terrible.
A small silver penny of the time had a high value for one penny you could buy a goose and 10 coins — a small flock of geese.
