Residents of London can provide “coffee fuels the” third part of the transport system.
In an effort to reduce exhaust emissions from company Transport for London manages the transport system of London (UK), transfers part of the double-Decker buses on biofuel from coffee grounds.
Biofuel B20 brand will be made by mixing oil derived from coffee grounds, with the diesel fuel. This initiative will be implemented by the transport Department of London in collaboration with Shell, Argent Energy and Bio-Bean.
It is worth noting that the technology company Bio-Bean collects the grounds from coffee shops and factories for the production of coffee, and uses them for the production of oil. The plant is permitted to process up to 50 thousand tons of spent coffee per year.
According to estimates Transport for London, London residents can provide “coffee fuels the” third part of the transport system.
Any additional costs such an experiment will not lead, as to make any modifications in the design of buses is not necessary.
According to the BBC, biofuels produced using wastes such as cooking oil and fat from processing of meat, already use many of 9500 buses of London. However, this is the first time that biofuel derived from coffee, introduced in the public transport system of the city.
