In Lithuania, pedestrians are forbidden to talk on the phone while crossing the street

The government of Lithuania has approved amendments to the Rules of the road: pedestrians, talking on the phone while crossing the street, will be fined in the amount from 20 to 40 euros.

For these offences in the administrative code of Lithuania provides for a fine in the amount of 20-40 euros. The amount of the fine for the first offense may be reduced to 10 euros.

In addition, drivers will have to pass pedestrians who had just got up to the crosswalk or “standing at the edge of the roadway and is waiting to join”.

As stated in the explanation to the resolution of the Lithuanian government, these measures are introduced with the aim of improving the safety of pedestrians, which accounted for a fifth of all fatalities on the roads of Lithuania. In 2017 on the roads of Lithuania was fatally wounded 68 pedestrians, and for the first eight months of this year 42 pedestrian. Of these, 13 were knocked down at pedestrian crossings.
