The decision adopted on 31 January.
The city Council at the meeting on 31 January approved a new rate tourist tax. About it reported in a press-service of the city Council.
This decision is based on the European practice and is tied to the minimum wage established in the country.
“Today, we directly tied the tourist tax to the minimum wage. The legislation provided that the city government can set the tax rate to 5% for foreigners and 0.5% are domestic tourists. However, that wasn’t a big differentiation, we adopted the following rates: 1% – for foreigners and 0.4% for Ukrainians”, – said the Deputy Andriy Strannikov.
In 2018, Kiev was visited by 3 million domestic tourists and nearly 2 million foreigners. If in 2019, the flow will remain the same, the city may receive up to 150 million hryvnia of taxes (almost 5 times more than last year). In 2018 a tourist tax amounted to 33 million UAH. All the funds will be spent on the development of the tourism industry and promotion of the city.
To pay the fee will be the owners of the hostels, camp sites, guest houses, camps, and even apartments and villas for rent.
