In Kiev, renamed two stations of the metro

In the Kiev city authorities after renaming of streets and avenues when it came to the station of the Moscow metro.

So, the proposal for the renaming of two metro station “Petrivka” and “Lev Tolstoy Square” in early March appeared on the website of the Kyiv city state administration for public comment on Kiev. Despite the fact that until the end of voting left for another two weeks, a new name for the station “pochayna” supported 1,310 and voted against 449.

However, renaming the station “Petrovka”, whose name is associated with the “red revolutionary” Grigory Petrovsky, sparked heated debate.

“Nothing to rename! Better build a new subway line and station, then you can enter the station “pochayna” — offers Andrey Ryazanov.

“I think that returning the name of the river pochayna in toponymy Kiev has a symbolic meaning. This is an opportunity to receive important information about the past of their region”, — says Tatiana Kirichuk.

At the same time, some citizens with a fair share of humour suggested naming the station “George Bush” or “the Book market”.

According to the President of the Institute of reform and development of Kyiv Oleksandr Vovchenko, there is every chance that “Petrovka” will be renamed. As for mass renaming of metro stations, in my opinion, it will not. The prospect of renaming is only at the station “Heroes of Dnepr” and “Arsenal”.

In addition, as described Vovchenko, unable to rename the station “Leo Tolstoy”, as in the capital too many objects named after the Russian writer, who was in Kiev only once.

It should be noted that in the two years in Kiev dekommunizirovali 166 streets, avenues, squares and derusification about 30. And the city authorities continue to initiate new rename.

In the renaming process are two of the capital’s railway station “Kiev-October” we would like to call the “Pear” in honor of the historic location and art “Kiev-Moscow” — “Kiev-Demeevskaya.”

“You need to rename the station of the Kiev train “Kiev-Petrovka”, “Zenith” and “Rubezhivska”. The last name comes from the name of the colony that was once located nearby. I am sure that we have a much better name for this station,” — said the reformer.
