Gennady Vorobiev died in his office.
Died, the former first Deputy chief of the General staff Colonel-General Gennady Vorobyov.
Today at 10:55 in my office died, Colonel-General Gennady Petrovich Vorobyov.
Colonel-General Vorobyov in 2009-2014 served as commander of the Land forces. In the winter of 2014 he refused to obey orders to use force to Maidan activists.
In early 2015 the Verkhovna Rada adopted the law, which introduced amendments to the law “About the cleansing power” (on lustration) and which provides the possibility to save positions of higher officers, which falls under the lustration. Under this law, earlier dismissed sparrows was reinstated as the first Deputy chief of the General staff.
21 may 2016, the sparrows left the system of the General staff and joined the Ministry of defence by the national defence University of Ukraine named after Ivan Chernyakhovsky.
For conscientious and faultless service, Colonel-General Gennady Vorobyev was awarded the order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky III degree and “For courage” III degree, many medals and distinctions of the Ministry of defence of Ukraine and other force structures of the state.
