The vote will take place tomorrow.
The Kyiv city Council intends to rename the Victory Avenue in Brest-Litovsky Prospekt. This is stated in the agenda of the Council meeting on 5 October.
According to the draft decision, Victory Avenue requested to return the historical name of Brest-Litovsk.
Public comment the renaming took place on the website of the Kyiv city administration in the period from November 16, 2016 to January 16, 2017. Participation in the vote was 1 172. Of these, 810 citizens (69%) supported the renaming of Victory Boulevard, and the rest voted against it.
Victory Boulevard known since the first half of the NINETEENTH century as Zhytomyr and Kyiv-Brest highway. Since the late NINETEENTH century, with the beginning of its development, it was called the Brest-Litovsk highway, 1964 – Brest-Litovsky Prospekt. The modern name of the Avenue was awarded in 1985.
Also, the Boulevard of Friendship of peoples, which runs from the railway overpass to the bridge Paton is proposed to call the name of the founder of Ukrainian nationalism Mykola Mikhnovsky.
In addition, submitted to vote to rename the Avenue of Heroes of Stalingrad in the Obolon district the Avenue named after the Ukrainian poet and composer Volodymyr Ivasyuk, the author of the songs “Vodohray” and “Chervona Ruta”. During public discussions the renaming has received 737 votes and 765 votes against, but half of the votes against renaming were not taken into account due to the recognition of their fake.
It is also planned to rename the street of Marshal Timoshenko in the Obolon district in the street of the poet Nikolai Kagarlitsky, the Moscow street – in the street name of ATO Dmitry Gudzenko and so on.
